Implementing multi-turret and twin-barrel support with a 3rd soviet heavy line Part III

Author: Thor_Hammerschlag

Article history:
Part I
Part II

Hello,

In this last article of the series we are going to discuss the top of the proposed branch of tanks with multiple guns. In the last article I introduced the T-39, which is first twin-barrel heavy tank of the line. In this article two more twin-barreled heavy tanks will follow. However, before these more modern designs will be introduced, meet the peak of Soviet multi-turret tank designs!

Tier VIII super heavy tank: VL

Description:
Developed on basis of the soviet experience in the winter war 1940. The armor of this vehicle is nothing special at the first look. The turret has 125mm on a round surface with a rather large mantlet, which could make it resistant to 175 mm penetration guns. However, the side armor at 60 mm could really troll a lot of people. The reason therefore is, that it has two layers of thick tracks on each side covering it. If both tracks get implemented as 50 mm spaced armor (just as on high tier Japanese heavies), the effective side armor without any angling is 160 mm. So this tank could be pretty bouncy on distance or when sidescraping. However, this tank is huge. I tried to calculate its dimensions based on the humans on the picture, the result was that the tank is about 12 m long and 6 m wide. This is also where the impressive weight should come from: 260t. Making it the heaviest tank of the entire game.

The firepower is again great with a 130 mm gun on T8. Alternatively, mounting a 305 mm D-23 (!) is also an historical option. Keeping in mind that both damage and penetration are balance-parameters now, this gun could be balanced as a unique derp gun of extreme parameters with about 1300 alpha-damage. The Mini-turrets both have 76 mm guns. The caliber has a decent HE-round already which could detrack and especially keep people detracked very well. Furthermore these guns could destroy annoying obstacles quite easily and be pretty devastating against light armor.

Mobility:
Weight: 260t
Maximum speed forward: ? km/h
Engine: 3xGAM-34 (3x800hp)
Power to weight ratio: 9.23 hp/t

Armor:
Hull: 75/60/60 mm (+2x50mm thick tracks on each side)
Primary-turret: 125/60/60 mm
Secondary-turrets: ?/?/? mm

Armament:
Primary-turret: 152 mm gun mod. 1910/30 (unhistorical stockgun, from T-39)
-Upgrade:
  • 130 mm B-13
  • 305 mm D-23 (Balance?)

Secondary-turret: 76 mm L-11 (2x)
-Upgrade:
  • 76 mm L-11 (2x) (APCR)

On T9 the line makes the breach: Just as on the new Japanese heavies, multiple turrets are not viable on that tier. However, the following two heavy tanks have a different interesting feature: Two main guns mounted next to each other providing massive twin-barrel firepower from a single turret.

Twin-barrel firepower in WoT

For example - shooting two barrels at the same time for great burst damage could be completely possible with this feature. But it is only recommended in close combat, because as soon as you shoot one gun you have to aim with the second one as well. Considering the caliber of Soviet high tier guns (Examples: 100mm gun: 2x320dmg=640dmg or 122mm gun: 2x390dmg=780dmg), these vehicles will have great stopping power in close combat.

As illustrated in the top left corner of the figure below, two guns also mean that you are able to reload them separately. In order to balance this feature, you have long reload times on each gun. The reload time should be 1.5-2x higher than on comparable guns on single-barreled tanks. Furthermore you have to aim really carefully, because these guns are fixed - thus they dont aim for exactly the same point. The issue can be seen in the middle of the picture: Each gun has its own crosshair.

After discussing the basics of twin-barrel support, let us finally have a closer look on the war-machines with this outstanding feature!

Tier IX heavy tank: ST-II

Description:
On T9 SerBs twin-barrel nightmare, the ST-II finally makes its appearance. Here is a larger and detailed drawing. From the picture it is not clearly visible, but the turrets side and roof could be slightly weaker than that of the conventional ST-I. As its armament are 4 different twin-barreled weapons given in the drawing - and the last one of those, could actually make an historical top-gun for it on T9. It is a 122 mm gun with a muzzle velocity of 900 m/s, which has 50 m/s less than the M-62T2 gun of the ST-I. The penetration could thus be about 240 mm.

Mobility:
Weight: 58t
Maximum speed forward: 40 km/h
Engine: 800 hp, 850 hp (?)
Power to weight ratio: 14.65 hp/t

Armor:
Hull: 140/140/? mm
Primary-turret: 250/160/160 mm

Armament:
100 mm at 900 m/s (equally to D-10T -> 175 mm pen)
122 mm at 800 m/s (equally to D-25T, either AP with 175 mm or APCR with 217 mm pen)
100 mm at 1000 m/s (comparable to the D-54 -> about 215 mm pen)
Top gun: 122 mm at 900 m/s (50 m/s less then then M-62T2 of the ST-I [258 mm] -> about 240 mm pen)

Tier X heavy tank: Shashmurins TEP

Description:
This tank is an outstanding design which was found in the archives of Nikolai Fedorovich Shashmurin. The tank is called Tank of Extreme Parameters (TEP) and it looks like a crossbreed of an IS-8 and IS-4. It does indeed even look like the Apocalypse Heavy tank of Command and Conquer Red Alert.

The hull-front does not have a pike-nose, however it is extremely well angled (looks like an auto-bounce angle) and the side armor seemingly has spaced armor as on the T-10/IS-7 hulls. The rear of the hull looks also comparable to the IS-7s. The twin-barrel turret fields two large guns, they seem to resemble 122 mm or 130 mm guns. Detailed information on mobility/armor/armament on this vehicle is currently not available. Hopefully Yuri Pasholok will publish info about it soon!

Summary:

The presented branch gives an idea on how to implement multi-turret and twin-barrel mechanism into game. The idea is based on the one hand on the request of multi-turret tanks like the T-35 and on the other hand on SerBs intention to implement twin-barreled tanks into the game.

The line which is illustrated in the soviet techtree in the figure below, consists of multi-turret tanks from T2-T8, with the famous T-35 at T4, the SMK at T5, and the T-100Z at T6. Two unique, yet monstrous tanks with great firepower (some dimensions are larger than that of Japanese heavy tanks!) follow on the next tiers. The T-39 at T7, which is related to the development of the T-35 and the VL at T8 which is a successor of the T-100 (developed after the Winter War).
At T9 the branch switches from multi-turret to twin-barrel support, with the ST-II at T9 and the TEP, which was recently discovered, marking the end of the proposed line at T10.

Hammerschlag

Korean WoT Players Aimbot Protesting

Thanks to ??? !

Source.

Hello Warriors,

I've been aware of this for a couple days now but I've been allowing the situation to develop but its time to put it on RSR (I'm pretty much quoting from the source link but did a few grammar/aesthetic changes):

World of Tanks has had a decent popularity in Korea, its age range is a little higher than other games but it definitely had a healthy population.
Wargaming Korea has been known to be pretty strict in banning players that abused missions and use cheats in game.
However this one guild called [PAPA] was infamous in the community for sharing Illegal Mods (Aimbot, Object Maphack, Reload) with each other and never getting banned. (The name meanings papa=father, meaning they are wealthy old players)
Finally, because multiple QUAKE (Another clan) members have been caught abusing rigging missions, one guy decided to visit the War Gaming Korea HQ.
He has spoken with the company and this was what they said:

Regarding the Aimbot:
The hacks have been banned as of 2015.5, and they were using it in April, we fully acknowledge that there were other players that have received permabans in April, but for the PAPA members, we do not know if they were using it with bad intent.

About the mission abuse:
We know about this, however how do we know if he was abusing with a good intention or a bad intention? If he did it with bad intention we should ban him. But he did it without knowing, how can we ban him?

They have also told the person that visited the company "Don't come anymore, you are only wasting your time"
Now every player, even the professional players who have been playing competitively for multiple years are all using aimbot, streaming it on the Korean streaming platform to show their disgust with how WG Korea has handled it.
Now WG Korea is going on full offensive, they are permabanning every player using the illegal mods, and they even personally track down the player's main accounts and give it permabans as well.
Giant number of players are quitting as I write this right now, are localized servers usually bad in management?
PAPA members are still abusing illegal mods as of recently, 1300 rating member's video:

Another one, rigging.

Now, this is what I can say about this situation:

  • I find weird that they are strict to ban players but then don't ban some individuals after being given proof because they are unsure if was done with evil intentions, if this is true I smell double standard and I've seen something like it happen before in another company, it wasn't pretty, it spread like weeds and it never recovered from it.
  • There is only one side of the story, maybe is a WG Korean staff thing but we don't know if the person who visited the office did or acted in a way for WG personnel to not want him there any more, my personal experience with WG (and trust me some would like to whip my arse) always been very welcoming, specially the EU and NA offices, they have for multiples times told me that their door is open for visiting, I will creep on them eventually.
  • Third, although the KR server is small, the amount of players who took notice of this seem to be a small fraction (Forum readers and such), checked the chart for the server and there isn't much of a change:
This doesn't look like a exodus.
  • And last, I don't think that illegal mod users are worthy of players to take risk on losing their accounts, keep on annoying the staff with the proof you have and make as much noise as you can but don't go down to the cheaters' level, you are better than that.

T22 in WoT Xbox

Thanks to Zach H. !

Hello Warriors,

Besides the British turreted TDs, looks like the T22 Prototype is going to come on the WoT Xbox  2.5 Update and while Zach calls it a bad boy, I call it a cutie!

Statistics:

Tier: 1
Type: Medium Tank
Hit Points: 275
Weight/Load limit: 7.4 / 7.9t
Engine Power: 175 h.p.
Speed Limit: 38 km/h
Traverse Speed: 54 deg/sec
Turret Traverse Speed: 49 deg/sec
Hull Armor: 34/23/17 mm
Turret Armor: 30/30/30 mm
View Range: 260 m

75mm Gun M3
Ammunition: 50 pcs
Damage: 41-69
Penetration: 34-56
Rate of Fire: 20.69
DPM: 848.29

And I ask you, does it make sense that this vehicle is being added as a tier 1, behind a T2 MT and M2 LT?  I wrote down the statistics of the tier IIs bellow:

M2 LT Statistics compared to T22
Tier: 2
Type: Light Tank
Hit Points: 160
Weight/Load limit: 8.62 / 11.5t
Engine Power: 262 h.p.
Speed Limit: 58 km/h

20 mm Hispano-Suiza Birgikt Gun
Ammunition: 1,200 pcs
Damage: 9-15
Penetration: 23-38
Rate of Fire: 97.83
DPM: 880.47

T2 MT Statistics compared to T22
Tier: 2
Type: Medium Tank
Hit Points: 170
Weight/Load limit: 12.08 / 16.2t
Engine Power: 340 h.p.
Speed Limit: 40 km/h
Traverse Speed: 46 deg/sec
Turret Traverse Speed: 38 deg/sec
Hull Armor: 22/22/22 mm
Turret Armor: 25/25/25 mm
View Range: 320 m

37 mm Gun M5
Ammunition: 103 pcs
Damage: 30-50
Penetration: 36-60
Rate of Fire: 26.09
DPM: 782.7

To be honest... I prefer the armor and gun of the T22 over these 2, I don't understand how this is a viable tier 1.

Note: T1 Cunningham is still available as a tier 1.

The Unicum Guide to the T26E4 Super Pershing

Hello Warriors,

here is the latest "Unicum Guide" by Sliphantom, this time he shows how to deliver freedom with the T26E4 Super Pershing :

My sides hurt... xD

Righteous Portuguese Indignation

Good morning lads and lasses,

so I was doing my morning routine and poked in the man cave to give some coffee to Jingles who eagerly told me that there is now a Portuguese map in WoWS called "The Atlantic" which is based on one of my countries' archipelagos, I immediately rushed to my PC to see how it looked:

For most it may look okay... but I immediately felt disappointed.

The image shows at least 8 islands so it has to be Azores, but the islands make no sense. Now, I understand that there has to be a consensus between game balance and aesthetics but it doesn't even look remotely close:

3928'N 3113'W
Screenshot taken from this video.

I guess the real deal would be too corridorish?

There is not even one single bit on "The Atlantic" that is Portuguese, the map makers would have been forgiven if they could at least have added something iconic like the Pico Mountain which is the highest point of Portugal.

Also, should I mail to the WoWS office a Geology book? The Archipelago of Azores has volcanic origins, the tone and erosion of the rocks completely resembles the coast of Algarve instead!

Lived with this scenery most of my life and wonder why I left it... oh that's right, bad economy.
Not even Madeira, another of our islands has any resemblance...I would like Wargaming to show what they based their work on. Anyway, I'm done talking about rocks!

This may sound nitpicking but is quite rare to have something Portuguese done in... anything? If you are going to do it, do it right!

And Jingles chose the tittle of this post by the way, he is laughing and calling me a nerd.

Storm Q&A

Hello warriors,

some leakers suggest that Wargaming is planning to overhaul the tier 9 German tank destroyers and introduce the Jagdpanzer E50. The thing is, Jagdpanzer E50 is a fake, just like this piece of "news", not much to worry about.

- Storm confirms: ghost shells are not a bug, but one of the engine features, caused by inaccurate transfer of coordinates at different distances.
- there are no cred/XP income problems with the Domination mode. The developers led an extensive investigation but found out there is practically no difference between it and random battles
- the sharp light and white "powder" on tanks in the holiday hangar is a feature, not a bug
- new sounds and motion physics ETA? "Sorry, I cannot answer"
- 9.13 contains a bug where the explosions and smoke sometimes look like squares, the reason for this is unknown for now
- it's possible that the bug (widely reported) of Czech tanks having texture problems with roofs on Winter Himmelsdorf maps is tied to the Protanki mod
- KV-3 model incorrect and to be investigated? "No promises"
- developers will investigate the situation where the Domination mode sometimes charges players for repairs that should be free
- T95E2 penetration will be reviewed once more for possible buff
- the Super Pershing small hatch (on the right side of the "pipes") was not a part of the old collision model, therefore it wasn't added to the HD one
- 9.13 FPS losses depend heavily on PC configuration
- summer camo bug is known and will be fixed
- currently, the developers are working on global changes such as the transfer to the new engine and multicore mechanism. In the last few patches (excluding 9.13), these tasks were gradually performed on both client and server side
- the developers agree that good historical and "in development" content could reduce the toxicity in the game, because the players could understand the developers better and vice versa

Vladimir Putin praises Armored Warfare

Hello warriors!

No, this is not a joke. Vladimir Putin visited today the Mail.ru stand in Moscow during the "Internet-Economics" forum taking place there today. He tried out the game and praised the Armored Warfare team for promoting Russian vehicles abroad.

I guess we have some T-90 and T-90MS buffs incoming?

22/12/2015 Stream

Hello Warriors,

just came out of a happy accidental prolonged nap like one of you called it in the comment section the other day.  My body clock is completely fracked up, this is my first winter in the UK and the lack of sun has left me disoriented, I've been finding myself waking up at 11pm while thinking its 7am, but at least I've been awake at blog working hours and doing what I'm suppose to do at the time I'm suppose to do. :) I may have to buy one of those lizard lamps although.

Anyway, I miss dearly my stream and will be playing for the next couple nocturnal hours some World of Tanks, will start on NA because I want to show you my Toldi III and then later on I'm hoping into EU for my grind accompanied by my whiskey, 80's music & wonderful chat: http://www.twitch.tv/ritagamer2

Armored Warfare: Type 59 Review by Rei-Lin

Hello Warriors,

Rei-Lin who has been a huge supporter to WoT and AW content producers and that I've nicknamed as my "North American Sugar Daddy" (just to wind him up), said that after being given courage from Jingles and I he decided to create his very first video which in my opinion is a really good one, a review of this year AW's reward, the Type 59, worth of taking a look:

Hope to see more of these Rei-Lin and keep on being the amazing person you are, you magnificent bastard! :P

EU Advent Calendar: Patton KR

Hello Warriors,

the cat is out of the bag, someone on the WoT's EU FB page posted earlier by mistake that one of the Calendar Advent tanks is the M46 Patton KR, it already got removed but the internet doesn't sleep and immediately screenshots were taken:

T-22sr Mission Rigging (EU)

Hello Warriors,

I'm very pleased to tell you that EU is now also taking action against the T-22sr Mission Riggers, I hope this is the start of a more active and swift moderation (also don't forget that the missions were nerfed so its easier for players to complete the mission without the necessity to go against the ToS), this is what MrConway just wrote in the forum:

"Fellow Tankers!

As many of you have already heard, there was an unfortunate amount of mission rigging going on after the introduction of our new rampage mode. Several players that were able to acquire the new T-22sr shortly after the missions were released, did so fraudulently.

We believe strongly, that fair-play is paramount in keeping our gaming environment fair and equal for all our players.

After analysis of received reports and our internal databases, we have taken action against ~100 players that broke our game rules to acquire this new tank. They will be receiving a 14 day game suspension and the T-22sr will be removed from their accounts permanently. The missions cannot be repeated, those players will never be able to earn the tank back.

The same sanctions will apply to any other players caught for mission rigging going forward."

Unlike RU and SEA, EU hasn't named and shamed the punished players.

Oh and by the way, I didn't forgot about my promise on gathering and sending the emails of riggers you sent to the support team. I'm already trying to find someone who is good at it, if not, things will be sent anyway and I will making random checks on whether there is action being taken.

Its your turn now NA, we are waiting...

WoWS: The Hungry Asian Cougar

Hello Warriors,

There is a WoWS director's cut video that just got uploaded by WG Asia. Because there is no tittle I will call it "The hungry (for fresh westerner's meat) Asian Cougar":

I loled at the mushroom head...

"Most likely a hoax" Update

Hello Warriors,

just as I came back from my exercising received a message in my skype from a very reliable source.

Like I expected, all of the shown to be upcoming tanks by the Russians are just another hoax so if you see them around you now know.

The Buganov's KV-4 in particular and which work wasn't attributed by the Russian pages, its "Giganaut's" artwork, I have photographic memory and recognized these straight ahead but is pure laziness from the guys not checking something as important as this, a simple Google search on the image brings the guy's work on first page.

Giganaut's work has been featured a couple times in FTR (and that's where I recognized his stuff from) but he actually has a DeviantArt page dedicated to his creations which is worth of taking a look (just ignore the mecha/furry fetish thing going on if that doesn't float your goat, it doesn't float mine for sure but I respect it): http://giganaut.deviantart.com/

And about the IS-152, there exists a similar aberration of nature in real life (and thanks to Andy J. for sharing this!):

Actually no... I remove that thanks from Andy! My eyes bleed from watching that, damn you Andy, damn you! hehe

1st Czech Tank Brigade

Good morning lads and lasses,

before I start my morning jog check out what G.S , a member of a group who re-enacts the Red Army during the GPW has emailed me:

He says:
"I am a member of a group that reenacts Red Army during the GPW. I friend of mine posted these pictures of the 1st Czech Tank Brigade on our 193rd Rifle Division RKKA page, and I found them very interesting, as the tanks have the current Czech logo in WoT and several of the inscriptions that are available, such as Lidice. I find it really cool to find the actual examples that WoT bases some of its inscriptions, etc off of. If you haven't seen them before, well here you go!

Note: the pictures are taken ~1945 and they are all almost certainly propaganda shots."

Most likely a hoax

Hello Warriors,

I'm back after my 10kg ginger dumbo cat nearly poisoned herself...

Went to check what the Russians were up to and they posted that apparently these vehicles are coming into the game, honestly, experience tells me this is likely just another hoax, specially because they don't say where this came from. I've checked the most likely places this could have originated from and nothing. I will be talking to my sources later on, most are asleep or AFK at the moment.

Buganov's KV-4
Premium tier 8 with 107mm ZIS-6 gun.
Compared to KV-1

IS-M
A variant of the regular tier 7 heavy with more powerful engine.

ST-II
ST-I with twin D-25 guns, most likely a tier 8 premium.

IS-152 (1940)
Looks like KV-2 on IS chassis.
